Alright ya'll, had to share because I've been combating this issue since I picked up my rad red 1999 V70 GLT FWD Auto wagon. My first turbo car, and first fwd Volvo. I had no service history, and had I known how to look for the red flagsof all that slipping in first gear I probably wouldn't have bought it. Previous owner had also removed the lightbulbs for every check engine light....
I was too excited so I bought it anyway. Long story short, after MONTHS of scratching my head, sitting on the fence on what I would do with this thing, right before paying someone to throw a new transmission in it I decided what the heck? Take a quick trip to the picknpull after work, grab a TCM from another 99-2000 P80 and throw it in.
and BOOM. That was it! No more flashing red arrow of death, no more CLEARLY being bogged down by an emergency limp mode. She shifts perfectly, and has all the pick up and go at the starting line that I could ever ask for. I AM SO HAPPY.
Let this be a lesson to ya'll that there is always a new move to make when troubleshooting, and that if you keep trying you WILL succeed.
Cheers!~
Edit-
All the while I had the P1618 code, which I actually still have along with a CEL. No flashing arrow and no more limited transmission function, but I still need to resolve this code to be all set. Progress, though. Progress!
