  • Let's Build a custom 240!

Here is the scenario: You're driving home from work and take an alternate route. About 5 miles down the road you arrive at a dealership and they post up a sign that say's..."You build it, you keep it." To your amazement its a clean 1993 245 and the owner of the dealership wants some add on's. How would you build it?

Ford 302 engine and t5 trans swap form a fox body mustang, cam and heads with a procharger. Keep the body looking stock and have a awesome sleeper !

Nice! That would make a great sleeper setup!

Rework and transplant a 5 cyl turbo awd. Must keep it volvo. a 5.0 as well as an LS have been done a bunch. In fact you can buy kits to do either one but an AWD 5CYL TURBO would be what I would do.
basically force a 60 or 70R running gear down a 245s throat. Ooooooo, fabrication time...

Have you seen SimplyVolvo's Youtube channel. He's building an 850 T-5R that's making like 800hp and he built a billet angle gear to convert it from FWD to AWD.

I have been watching from the beginning. The angle gear is pretty sweet. The conversion to awd isn't that big of a deal as the early V70R was basically a rebadged 850. (With some mods) he does good work but I think the custom machining required would be cost prohibitive for almost all awd volvo owners.

I think I would go D24 TIC diesel with a manual transmission. I'd want a high geared rear axle and a custom large fuel tank for extra range.

Well, if nothing else, there would be one less Fox body Mustang in the world, and that's a good thing!

The Fox just wasn't my favorite of a line of the car I've like since 1964!
We actually had a '641/2 fastback- a Ford dealer lived behind us and my dad was in the market for a new car, liking the drop-top he inquired but our neighbor told him to wait a few weeks and he would have a new body style, one night he drove one home and parked it in our driveway - Lasted less than a few weeks as it was too small for us with 2 big kids and a baby. fortunately the neighbor took it back.
Over the years I did get a '65 coupe and a '71 Fastback but when I hopped in a Fox body I just was, "underwhelmed".Sorry but it just whispered "70's econobox' in my ear. I needed a better car to go to dental school in and almost settled on the gone AND forgotten Fairmont instead. (Got a Caprice whose previous owner had been one of the Apollo 13 astronauts, thought I'd make money on it. Didn't but then I sold it before the movie came out.)

I know the mustang life well also, brother has a 68 gt/cs mother in law has a 68 fastback and 68 coupe. Tons of fun but I can understand your opinion on the fox body. It’s a love or hate kinda car
